Wherever a fact changes from case to case, type a blank like {{client_name}}. Everything around it stays yours.

Match each blank to the case, once
Point every blank at the part of the case it comes from, then save. That's the whole setup for that template.

Generate it on any case of that type
Open the case, find the template under Document Templates, and click Generate. The filled file opens right away.
In the template, each case fact is a blank: {{client_name}}, {{date_of_loss}}, {{insurer_name}}, {{adjuster_name}}, {{claim_number}}, {{provider_name}}, and {{TODAY_LONG}} for the date. The rest of the letter is the firm's own wording.

What a template can fill, where the finished file goes, and what opens without a download.
What is legal document automation in Legasus?
It fills your firm's own Word and Excel templates with facts already saved on the case. You mark each blank in the template, like {{client_name}} or {{claim_number}}, and match it once to where that fact lives in Legasus: the intake form, the insurance record, the medical providers, the liens. After that, anyone working the case clicks Generate, and the finished file opens and is saved to your firm's files. Legasus doesn't rewrite your wording. It only fills the blanks.
Can we use the Word and Excel templates we already have?
Yes. Templates are ordinary .docx and .xlsx files, so your letterhead, paragraphs, and formatting stay exactly as you wrote them. Add the blanks in Word with double curly braces, upload the file in Settings under DocGen, and review the field mappings. A blank can also format its value, for example writing a date out in full or setting a name in capitals.
Which matter types can have document templates?
Personal Injury, Workers' Compensation, Litigation, and Real Estate. Each template belongs to a matter type and a page of the case, such as Intake, Insurance, Liens, or Settlements, and a page can hold more than one group of templates. Other matter types can still keep their files in Legasus; they just don't have document templates.
Can a spreadsheet list every provider or lien on the case?
Yes. In an Excel template you mark the row to repeat with a note in the sheet, and Legasus writes one row for each medical provider or lien on the case. A settlement statement can list every provider's bill and every lien without anyone copying numbers across by hand.
Where does a generated document go?
It opens as soon as it's generated, and a copy is saved to your firm's files in a folder for generated documents, so nobody has to download it and upload it again. From there it can be previewed, edited, renamed, tagged, starred, or locked like any other file.
What can we store, and what opens in the browser?
Files up to 50 MB each, including PDFs, Word and Excel files, PowerPoint decks, images, text, audio, video, archives, and saved emails. SVG images are blocked for security. PDFs, Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx) files, images, text, audio, and video preview right in the browser. PowerPoint decks, archives, and email files are kept on the case and opened from your computer.
Can an email attachment go straight to the case?
Yes. In Legasus Mail, choose Save to project Files on a message and its attachments are saved into that case's folder, under mail. They sit next to the records and photos your team uploaded.
Can we edit a Word document without downloading it?
Yes, for quick fixes. Edit Document changes the text and basic formatting in the browser, and Edit Spreadsheet does the same for Excel files. The browser editor doesn't keep headers, footers, tracked changes, tables of contents, or custom styles, and Legasus tells you so before you start. For those, download the file and open it in Word.
